In our recent meeting some questions were asked about the amount and terms of the adoption tax credit LGBT parents can receive in the 2011 and 2012 tax years. We asked attorney Melissa Brisman to provide clarifications. It appears that in the 2012 tax year the amount is slightly lower and cannot be used to get a refund if you do not owe taxes, but for the first time the credit can be carried forward for additional 5 years. At the October NY Men Having Babies workshop we hosted a TV crew filming for the Portuguese “Frontline” documentary show. The show aired on November 30th, and indeed it includes a nice clip from our meeting. They show also includes a rare interview of 11 year old gestational surrogacy kids (children of Ron and Greg from our group) about their origin and family makeup. Read More...

The Network of European LGBT Family Associations (NELFA) will host the first "Men Having Babies - Europe" Surrogacy Seminar and Gay Parenting Expo on April 29, 2012. It will take place in Lloret de Mar, near Barcelona, Spain, as part of a 4-day conference and family gathering expected to attract hundreds of LGBT parents and parents-to-be. In December 2009 our group members David and Alex were featured in a documentary video made by the New York Times and titled: “Donors, Daddies, Surrogates, Lawyers”. The three, along with the little baby Jessica carried for the new dads, were our June 2009 Pride guests. Jessica is mom to 14 year-old Caleb and lives in a suburb of Nashville with her husband, Eric. Jessica is an ESL teacher and works with a variety of populations in and around the Nashville area. She is a first-time gestational surrogate, and describes the journey as “a most affecting and rewarding experience”.
